Youth deer hunting success

My son took this buck during the Wisconsin youth deer hunting weekend. 90 yard shot Savage axis 6.5 creedmoor Hornady American whitetail 129 grain dropped the spike buck on the spot. I had to talk him out of shooting the does that were out and further away but in range for him. Was hoping one would get inside 60 yards for my daughter to get her first deer. That didn’t happen but because of it the buck showed up just before we would run out of light.

That is what it’s all about. How many deer can a resident harvest in a year in Wisconson? Is it like Ohio where you have lots of OTC opportunities?

You get an antlered and a antlerless tag with your OTC license where we hunt in Wisconsin. But it depends on what part of the state you want to hunt. In the Northern part they don’t give antlerless tags as much. In the south you get even more tags as the deer population is to high the DNR says. It’s a very complicated system that changes each year it seems. But overall it is easy to get deer tags as long as you are hunting outside the very northern parts of the state
