Was listening to today’s YouTube release while driving around. Then I got stuck in the Drive-Thru at my favorite sandwich shop, so I decided to actually pick up the phone and read the YouTube comments. As usual, within 30 seconds I had regretted my decision. But just like a train wreck, once you start looking, it’s impossible to stop.
So if you’ve ever considered looking into the comment section but haven’t done it yet. I’m going to save you some time by basically summarizing all of the comments for every video ever below. This isn’t just for Jim’s stuff but also Spomer, etc etc etc.
Or, if you’re considering posting a comment in yourself feel free to copy and paste and save yourself some keystrokes. You’re welcome!
Three shot groups! It’s 2025 no one uses three shot groups anymore! Don’t you know that that’s an invalid metric?
You need to watch episodes 50 and 52 of the Hornady podcast. You need to do that before you post another video ever.
[ I’ve never taken a single statistics class in my life but suddenly I’m an expert!]
Should have used X bullet instead
Should have used Y cartridge instead
Should have used Z rifle instead
You are
Using the rest or bipod incorrectly
Flinching
Jerking
Too close to the scope
Too far away from the scope
Canted
Holding your mouth wrong
Well you got a poor result from this group but when I do a hand load for this particular bullet using 62.34876 grains of Retumbo ( yes I can measure that well), exactly 0.02784321987 inches off the lands ( I told you I can measure that well) I get 2367 ft per second with an extreme spread of one and a standard deviation of less than 0.5. It will make a 0.25 in group at 200 yards for a 10 shot group and be exactly 0.3 in high and 0.175 in right of the bullseye
30-06 RULES!!!
No one should ever shoot an animal any further than I feel confident at. You’re being unethical
I know this isn’t the topic of the video but I’m considering buying a new rifle and can’t decide between a T3x and a CA Ridgeline.
Why does anyone need a new cartridge when the 270s been doing it for 100 years?
Right off the bat i have issues with number 6…
Who the freak loads for 2300 fps? Was it a handgun cartridge? #7. If you shoot and proclaim the 30-06 as your lord and savior you will never die… evidently! #8 kinda proven by jims milk jug challenge.
Oh # 1 is true one shot groups rule ( watch cortina for verification)
3 thru 5 #9 is not a real person it’s a Chinese robo poster socially engineered to piss me off. #10 this was proven to me last weekend when i took a friend out and we shot my 6.5 prc and his 270 side by side and I’ll be dammed if wasnt at least even and probably favored the 270 a hair when it come to trajectory any way.
You got to watch those two podcasts I mentioned in number 1! Lower velocities are more accurate!!
Serious mode for a second here.
I purchased a Cooper rifle last year and it came with a test Target with three bullet holes touching at 100 yards. Somewhat unusual, they actually included the load recipe for it.
Hot dog! I can repeat that easily enough so I did. It was accurate, but it was running around 400 ft per second slower than typical loads for that cartridge, 280 ackley. My 7-mm-08 with a shorter Barrel actually shot faster than that particular hand load.
So I came up with my own load with doing some development and some research and now I’ve got both accuracy and decent, but not hot rod, speed
About the group size, we get lots of comments because we shoot 3-shot groups saying it’s a terrible test.
What they ignore is that we always shoot FIVE groups of 3 so we’re getting pretty good data. That’s 15 shots. If you measure the ES for group size, five groups of 3 gives better data than 3 groups of five, statistically speaking.
The reason we don’t do a 20 shot group is just practical. Too often we need a few extra shots to get on paper to sight in the rifle, and that means we can’t complete the test with a single box of ammo and we’re trying multiple loads, so a second box for each load is expensive.
The really funny thing about that is if you actually listen to the entire Hornady podcast, that’s exactly what they do too!
Jaden says that for hunting rifles he only does three shot groups, but he does a lot of them, not just one. The other guy says that when he’s starting a load development, he starts off with just 9 or 10 shots. If he doesn’t like what he sees he does not load up anymore of that combo, and moves on to something new in terms of new bullet or new powder, Etc. He doesn’t waste 20 shots.
But no, everybody considers himself an expert now because they heard that three shot groups are too small!!
The other big thing that always gets me about these people who insist that you must shoot a 20 shot group; so if you do, what exactly are you supposed to compare it to?
Nobody else out there is reporting 20 shot group sizes. You really wouldn’t know if it’s a good size group or a bad size group.
Can you imagine trying to call up a rifle company and complain that your 20 shot group size is too large!?
