280 ackley improved recommendations?

Thanks for the reply cchilds, I did see Browning has some in 280AI also. X-Bolts. One comes with 20’’ barrels the others with 24’’. I have an X-Bolt in a 300 Win Mag with a break. But it’s more power than I need to hunt in the southeast.

I see Savage come with 22’’ barrels also the Christensen arms have a 22’’ carbon fiber wrapped barrel.

I held a Kimber in my had the barrel was really thin in my opinion.

Thanks Dennis

I’m not opposed to having one built. I don’t have very many gunsmiths in my area. But I do have a connection in Tx that could help me out!

Do you know of a place that actually has a Browning in 280 available?

They have several sku’s for 280 in the xbolt 2, but I’ve never seen one in the wild, or in stock at retailers websites. There are none available on GunBroker.

If you can find a Savage available that has one of the proof research rifle barrels on it, that could be quite interesting and accurate. However I would know personally that if I were to buy one I would immediately be ready to replace both the stock as well as the trigger.

Where in the Southeast? I’m in NC

Carter, where in NC are you? I’m in middle Tn

No, I don’t at this time, but I have talked to one of the shops. I buy from, and they said they would have to find /order one.

Southeastern, not too far from Wilmington

Browning has a habit of creating skus that they never actually produce. Back with the first generation of X Bolt I had my local dealers looking for a particular one. I finally called the company. They said it was discontinued. I asked how many did they make, they said zero. I’ve been on the wait list at a local gun store for an x-bolt 2 in 280 as soon as they were announced. So far, they have not been able to find any.

Oregon mountain arms pretty much will do it all for you on the build, along with Carbon 6, you just mail them your gun they put the barrel on for like $150-ish and mail it back

Carter, Thanks for the info on all this. I just ordered a Fierce.

Sweet!

Didn’t know they were still making them.

Enjoy!

Carter,

I called them this morning to make sure they were still making them. The lady in sales said they don’t have one in stock so it could take up to 90 days to make. I think I will enjoy this one the most.
