Backfire's Ammo Recipe Cook Book (new)

On the podcast last week, I mentioned that the best way to do load development is to simply see what the “herd knowledge” best load is. Find what other shooters are receiving good results from and try that load to start. The question then, is how to get the best loads unless you have lots of the top shooters in the world in your contacts list. Lucky for us, I do

I’ve put together a list of loads for many of the cartridges I’ve loaded for the most and achieved very good accuracy with. You can view it here: Backfire's Load Development Recipe Book - Google Docs

I think it’ll be a nice resource for picking the direction of your load development.

Cool!

Thanks

With that have looked into the 6 max cartridge at all, it performs better than a 6 arc and has better feeding. Was wondering if you were wanting to get into it?

Jim thanks. Im currently redoing a loadfor the 156g EOL my previous load was way too hot but very accurate 58.6g n565.

Ive loaded up a powder charge test 55g to 55.9g (ironic since yours is 55.3g). I use Peterson brass BR2 primers and load mine at 2.930 coal.

For my 6.5prc reloads im using EC dies the full length bushing die followed by a mandrel.

I utilized chatgp and it suggested 55.3g as the sweet spot.

Cheers,

Al Morales

awesome thanks jim

This is fantastic! Just got a 7 saum barrel, got a load for that yet?

Not yet but I’m waiting on a 7 SAUM barrel so I’ll update after I get some loads done.

I load a 162 ELDX over H4350, and get good accuracy. I haven’t shot any animals with it yet

I have started with 180 eldm and h4831sc. Shoots good groups (only 50 rounds total through the barrel so far) but speed is only 2705 with 26” CRB barrel.. Got room to go to a hotter load but was curious what bullets and powders others are shooting. Shooting long range (up to 2200 yds) with this.

Are you going with a short or medium action for the 7 SAUM build?

I am running a short action. 2.995 oal

I honestly can’t remember what I picked lol. I’ll just wait and see when it shows up.

4831SC has a reputation as a great powder for accuracy, but not for speed.

180 eld-m n560 60.0 gr. Coal is 3.15. I use a tikka action setup in their long action configuration. Mcgowen 30” barrel. Velocities are in the 2900s. Probably have room to go hotter if I wanted but it’s accurate. I can hit pretty consistently out to 1000 which is as far as I currently have access to.

the 180 and 183 SMK hpbts I do 60.0 gr of n560 as well. Haven’t honed these in as much yet as I started out shooting the 180 eld ms. But they seem promising

195 elite hunter Berger is another one I’m playing with. Also using n560 maybe 59.5 but I don’t remember off the top of my head and I’m traveling. Bergers are just so expensive but they are so so accurate.

I have another 7 SAUM 22” hunting rifle. For that I load 175 eld-x with 61.5 gr of n560 and although accurate, it’s too hot. Velocities are 2930-2950ish. I need to probably back it off some.

Anything for 22 cm yet?

Thanks, I will give it a try but have to keep it to short action lengths at the moment. May have to add a long action receiver and chassis the to fleet

I haven’t loaded 22 Creed yet. Sorry!

Pieter Malan from Impact Shooting gave a load on his latest video on 22 creed. He used Varget, I believe, watch the video he did give measurements and quantities. Plus it clearly shoots well.

When I initially started I was using n565. It was accurate but a tinch slower than n560. But I’d avoid it if you’re staying within SAAMI OAL as you could run into compressed loads. Never have had issues with case capacity with n560.
