Backlight Chassis Build question

Ok, I’m planning on building a 7prc on the Backlight Chassis. My question is do I go with the Tikka T3x lite in stainless steel 22” barrel, or with the Bergara Premier Series barreled action with the #4 Stainless 22” barrel? Only about $150 difference in costs, so really not that big a deal.

I love my Bergara and a guy I shoot with who has both the Bergara Premier and a Tikka is adamant that the Bergara is better. Jim’s data argues otherwise. Obviously, you have more say in the barrel with the Bergara and you can get the Chassis now. The Tikka isn’t live yet.

One last thing to consider with the 7PRC is that it is a hammer and does better with beefier barrels. The T3x is a thinner barrel as is the #4. Adding a supressor can really mess with the harmonics of thinner barrels shooting large calibers.

I’d say Bergara, if your looking for barreled actions, Tikka if your going from just a action- hard to beat $1024.55

Thanks Ben, I didn’t think about the harmonics. Bergara also has a 24” #5.5 contour as well that I might have to look at.

I have a cva cascade (bergara barrel thin barrel) 300 win mag with a banish backcountry suppressor.

No issues

I also have a tikka t3x superlight6.5 prc also with a banish backcountry suppressor. No issues with it either.

Banish Backcountry is a very light suppressor. When I only had my Banish 30 v1, it radically changed the harmonics on my Savage 30-06. MOA at 50, completely off paper at 100. But was fine without the suppressor. Took it to a smith and this was their conclusion, the harmonics changed radically with the suppressor.

To OP, might be worth researching which suppressor people have used on a Tikka T3x lite or a Bergara #4 and get that Suppressor (unless you already have one). Obviously, the Backcountry would be one to start with.

I bought it to keep my rifle weight down. But your right im sure a heavy suppressor would affect accuracy.

Very tough call. Both could be great, but I’d lean toward the Bergara Premier barreled action. The premier series steel barrels are very accurate. I like that they have a bit more meat on the barrel too.

Thanks Jim. Would you do their #4 or #5.5 contour barrel? I currently lug around a12 lbs Sako S20 elk hunting in Colorado so I’m not overly concerned about weight.

@backfire i still haven’t gotten the return label for my chassis and I leave town on the 31st?

I wouldn’t worry too much about the return. They’ll get a label to you, but the most important thing is that we get a perfect one out to you. I told them today to start from scratch and build you a new perfect one so Garrett started going on it today. He is waiting on a couple parts to finish being processed but you’re literally the top of his list. No new shipments until this is fixed properly.

Thanks Jim you guys are going above and beyond really appreciate

My chassis was delivered yesterday. It looks and feels

great. There is one problem I have with it. If I put the front action

screws in the back one closest to trigger does line up or vice versa.

My first thought was to file the back screw hole until the screw will catch

(only needs a little) but wanted to ask someone first.

I’m curious if the comb height adjustment screws are a concern for clobbering the shooter in the face with heavy recoil rounds. Kinda new to anything but OEM stocks so still learning.

Good question. Being that Jim’s been shooting a 7prc in his chassis I think he’d have changed it if it did.

That does make sense.

Got your email, Michael. We’re sending you a new chassis with this fix made.

I wondered the same thing about the toolless screws rubbing on the face but I’ve never once noticed it during recoil.

One thing I didn’t like about my chassis is the carbon fiber hand guard cutout works for a scope without a sunshade but you’ll need to raise the scope height if you want a sunshade.
