Barnes is owned by Remington whatever that is? I heard this on Vortex podcast. Are they big enough to get whatever powder they want for their load development?
Believe that’s Vista, which owns Federal, CCI, Remington, Speer, and HeviShot. And Alliant powders.
For whatever reason I was always under the impression that the 168 lrx was really the bullet for the 7 PRC. Otherwise, you can’t use it in a 28 Nos or 7 RM unless they come with fast twist barrels. It’s too big for a 280 to push out with any kind of speed.
Haven’t listened yet but today’s episode of the Backcountry Hunting Podcast has this load as its topic for discussion.

I listened to that podcast on the way home from work today. They’re quoting somewhere between 3020-3050 FPS out of a 24-in barrel. And the bullet has a BC of 0.608/0.305 which is impressive considering that the 168 lrx has a BC of only 0.550.
They are also selling component bullets on the website now. Funny, they haven’t started selling those for the 152 bullet that was optimized for the 280ai. They also said on the podcast that load data was out but I don’t see anything on the web page right now.

Interesting. Wonder if this is going to be replacing the 170 terminal Ascent which hasn’t been available for quite some time.
Anyone know how these perform compared to the ELDx?
No direct experience here.
The fusion has been out for some time. The tipped version which this is is new. The tip should help with aerodynamics as well as initiating expansion. The fusion is bonded so at least in theory it should hold up better than an eldx, retain more mass, penetrate deeper.

I have taken Whitetail with the Fusion in my 30-06 180 grain. Took an 11point and dropped him in his tracks. But I am brand new to the ELDx, its what I am taking for my first Elk hunt.
I think I am in the overthinking stage lol, questioning every choice I have made so far.

The eldx for some reason is one of those bullets that just seems to gather a lot of attention, both positive as well as negative. Probably doesn’t help that Hornady is out there basically calling it the best bullet ever invented by man in the entire history of the universe.
It would probably be absolutely fine for Whitetail. The real interesting discussions come into whether or not it’s a good bullet for something more sturdy like an elk or not.
Fusions are bonded so performance similar to accubonds.
Strictly talking for elk and my perspective, I don’t trust an eldx hitting hard bone. Eldx is a broadside behind the shoulder double lung bullet. An elk hunt cost me $3000+ so I want the most performance from with the least amount of limitations and bonded or copper bullets have provided that for me

That 160 lrx looks nice at 3050 fps at muzzle. I am seeing 2950* from 160 CX from a 22 in barrel so probably very similar. the g7 is .307 for lrx compared to .286 for CX. That must be good for a couple inches at 1000 yds! 
*22 inch barrel at 2500 ft elevation from one lot of Hornady Outfitter 160 CX.
Thats pretty good velocity for hornady! Whats the lot number for that outfitter ammo?
