Multiple Rifles of Same Caliber

Here’s a question: How many of you have multiple rifles in the same caliber? How did you come to have the multiple rifles in the same caliber, the why question? I am trying to justify it but it becomes a “I just want it” and no real reason I need it.

I have 2 223 Remington’s now. Never planned on having multiple. Utah changed the deer hunting law for the unit I hunt for the next 5 years and it restricts the use of scopes. It was cheaper to buy another rifle with iron sites than trying to add something aftermarket.

For me it’s kinda like fly rods.. I might have a 8.5 ft 4wt for dry fly fishing on pond/ lakes and larger creeks and might have a 7ft rod for small creeks/ brooks.
Different tool for different job.

I have 2 in the same caliber. Reason is for my kids I need to have more than one gun in use at a time. It simplifies things a bit. If you have some caliber that you really like for what you do in my case deer hunting why not

I have 2 bolt action 308 rifles for deer hunting, and an AR10 with a thermal for hogs. I like having lots of ammo that is interchangeable, but each one does shoot a different “flavor.”

I also have 3 270s, but I don’t shoot any of them. No good reason I still have them except they were all given to me, and so kind of sentimental.

I have many many in just about every cartridge :joy: But I wouldn’t if I weren’t reviewing them.

Are you using a 223 for deer? What unit are you hunting? They changed my unit also. It’s been fun trying to figure out an open sight rifle. @mwoolsey

Yep have 2 basically of the same cartridge in my bolt guns and same cartridge in my semi auto zombie/End of the world kill them all quickly scenario

I have two 6.5prc rifles. I bought a CVA Cascade XT got it all kitted out took it to Vortex Edge training consistent 500 yard shots on steel. Took it hunting but way to heavy 11.5 lbs for this 62 year old.

So i bought the Tikka T3x superlight 22.4 inch barrel works great weight is 9lbs took a deer with it.

So the CVA is a dedicated Barnes LRX 127G gun for open country tripod gun.

The Tikka is my backpacking mountain gun I shooting the Berger 156g EOL and Nosler ABLR 142G.

Im in Wa state soon to be in Idaho.

Hoping to drop both into the Backfire chassis.

Yes, I’m using a 223 with the 77 TMK for deer. I want to see for myself how it performs on game. I hunt the Boulder/Kaiparowits unit. It’s a challenging hunt with the restrictions. Had 4-5 nice bucks I just couldn’t get close enough to last year to pull the trigger on, but I always enjoy being in the mountains with my boys. Here’s the iron sites rifle I got:

That’s awesome! I hunt the beaver west We had a lot of fun last year chasing them with open sight. I built a custom sight for a CVA rifle. I used the Williams globe sight. I taped the barrel and milled a piece of aluminum to raise the front sight so I could use my suppressor. It worked better than any factory open sight rifle that I compared it to. You could see through the sight a lot better. Most of the open sights I tried would cover most the deer cuz the front sight was so big. We killed 3 deer from 80- 300 yards. It worked very well.

Yeah, we’ve talked a couple of times about getting two different 6.5 prcs. One would be an 18 inch barrel gun. It would give you the ballistic equivalent of a 6.5 Creedmoor but in such a short light handy gun that would be super useful if you’re hunting over a small food plot out of a tight blind or tree stand. Then getting a 24 to 26 inch gun that will give you full Magnum long range performance if you want to go out west or hunt over something more open

This is pretty much my setup. 18” 6.5 prc that I use to deer hunt out of a blind out to 300 yards. I also have a 22 inch 6.5 PRC that I can use to reach out longer and get closer to proper velocity.

I have a bunch of calibers where I have multiples. I figure if I’m going to make a bad decision, because I don’t really need another one in a particular caliber, I might as well enjoy that bad decision and get what I want. I figure if I regret that decision, I can always sell my bad decision and get some of my money back to put towards my next bad decision.

Let’s see, when I started I started with a 300 WM and at that point sat down and thought it out whether or not to get a single caliber or not. A single caliber makes it easier on its availability factor. I would be able to find it anywhere at a reasonable price, I can shoot long distances using LRs, I don’t have spend more on a rifle with different cartridge to do the same thing. So, these are the ones I have all in 300 WM:

1- Bennelli SPA 26” 300WM

2-Browning X-Bolt 26” 300

3-Christensen semi MPR 26” 300WM

4-SAKO S20 26” 300WM

5- Winchester S70 Super 26” 300WM

6- Weatherby Mark V new 26” 300WM

7-Weatherby Mark V used 26” 300WM

8- Remington Arms 700 BDL 26” 300WM

9- Noreen 22” 300WM

10- Strum Ruger & Co No 1 24” 300WM

11- Savage Arms 110 26” 300WM

I think that’s all the 300WM rifles I have. Later on I went against my own assumption of just having a single cartridge and that cartridge became unavailable then what? That’s when I decided to get rifles with heavier caliber for long distance shooting mostly in a differentcaliber than just 300WM. At this point I look for 338 LM bolt action rifles if I am in the market to get something.

Congrats, Those are some really nice looking bucks! I’ve heard good things about the Williams sites. 300 yards with that kind of site is really impressive! I don’t know that I’d trust myself past 200 with open sites. Check out this buck my dad got though, I’d never seen a drop tine on a buck like this before.

If they’re in your way I have some free space

I don’t have the words :open_mouth:

That is a unique deer for sure!!

That is the best reason there is !!!
