Ruger American Gen 2 In the House!

Got the new one in the house! So far I really like what they’ve done. Looks likely to best the CVA Cascade, but my number one question is if it’s going to feed.

Is the barrel a true 20” plus brake or is 20” overal length?

Good question. I’ll have to check. This is in 223.

Note: in the old Predator model, .223, the included magpul magazine was terrible for both feeding and extraction–the next round would often be too high up, and prevent you from opening the bolt without dropping the magazine first. Happened all the time. Somone else on this forum figured out and reported that you could switch to another brand (Promag) and the issue went away. I confirmed with my own copy–he was right! So will be interesting to see if you run into this on your gen ii. Looking forward to hearing about it!

Hey just curious how does this stand up to the new tikka t3 rough tech? Looks like the same features just cheaper?

The Tikka Roughtech has been out for a while and it’s an exceptional gun. But, it’s twice the price of the Ruger.

The Ruger American kinda stirred up the whole market. Until the $1500 guns, I just don’t see much purpose in getting anything but the Ruger right now. The Ruger is extremely accurate. I just can’t really fault it.

Any word on barrel length for the 7 Prc from Ruger? All the ads I have seen dont provide any info on the q1-24 releases.

Congrats. But I thought you were going to wait for the 7PRC?
Now, I am getting tempted between this and the Beretta BRX1 (I know comparing apples to oranges!). BRX1 is three times the price of RAGII, but Gun Zone Deals has thrown me an offer I can almost not refuse :joy:

What caliber are you looking at with the BRX?

Thanks

I received a price quote of $1,359 on Beretta BRX1 308 Win Straight Pull Ambi Bolt Action OD Green 20" Barrel JBRX1G316/20. And I believe they respect that price for the other calibers as well as long as it is not the 300Win Mag 24" since it retails for $1,799. BRX1 has another 300 WM that retails for the same priceo $1,499 as the others but it is only 22".

Do you know what other calibers they are thinking about coming out in? I know 308, 6.5 Creed, and 300 Win Mag.

Curious if we will see a 6.5 PRC.

Don’t recall anybody at Shot Show posting anything about that.

I haven’t heard. Those three, 6.5Cr, 308 WM, and 300 WM are all I know. Jim might know if they are planning any other calibers soon or they may wait and introduce other calibers later in the year. What caliber are you looking for?

6.5 PRC for certain.

Maybe 300WSM.

Thanks for that, just picked one up. Since I have you on the thread when’s the backstop dropping for this one on 308?

We’ve been looking at Gen 2 Ruger American and I honestly don’t know if it’ll even be possible for us to do. They really over complicated the design of the butt of the rifle. Pad is not easily replaceable.

I just got this from Ruger today and I am a buyer when I find them at Market Price. Now to decide what Caliber…

Hi Bud,
This site is one of the sites that discounts heavily. I have been keeping track to see when they have one in stock:

Jim,
I know you just got your Ruger American Gen II. I have been looking at the Ruger American Gen II Predator with MSRP of $729 and 22’ barrel (I am not sure when it is available) and CA Evok (variation I) 6.5 PRC 22" with MSRP $898.99 (but I can get this at almost the same price as the Ruger Predator). Which one would you go for?

Thank you! Very helpful and much appreciated

Sure. I just ordered the all blk brx1 6.5 Cr 22" from them yesterday afternoon.
