The federal ascent may be the ticket.
With the EV Tuner brake on it, I can get the group down to .35”-.50”for my Sig Cross 308.
I’m a suppressor guy. I’m running a Silencer Co Harvestor on it
Are the rings loose or something? Everything else checks out?
No sir. Everything is torqued.
Even though I checked the barrel nut for snugness, I did not have a tool to check the torque. I saw a video yesterday that of a guy with the same gun. His barrel nut was not torqued to Sig specs. Once he torqued it to spec his groups were cut in half. This will be the next thing I check.
Well that sucks.
I would just tell sig you have a friend with a very popular youtube channel that wants to accuracy test it and review it for a video.

That might just work!
Jim, what’s your address?
Update: After another week of no response to my request for their testing standards, I sent them an admittedly snarky email requesting they just send me a magnum bolt head (for more barrel options) and call it good. I received a rather long winded response.
Here’s the meat “ The Cross is advertised and documented as a sub-1 MOA rifle, but this is based on the use of match-grade ammunition.”
I of course requested the below additional information:
“ What are your methods for testing “sub 1 MOA”?
How many groups of how many shots are you going to test?
How many groups at 1 MOA out of how many groups shot qualifies the rifle as acceptable?
Are you putting the barrel in a vise or is a person shooting it?
What “match grade” ammunition will you be using?”
We will see if I get any additional information before sending it back and risking having to pay $130 to get my rifle back.
Black Hills makes some ballistic tip loads for 165 168 grains that you may want to try and it would be competitive cost wise with other factory ammo.
I received this response on Sig’s testing methods:
What are your methods for testing “sub 1 MOA”?: This will be done with open sights and SIG Optic
How many groups of how many shots are you going to test? 2 sets of 5
How many groups at 1 MOA out of how many groups shot qualifies the rifle as acceptable? We would expect the 2 set of 5 to be within spec
Are you putting the barrel in a vise or is a person shooting it?. A vice may be used, however often is not necessary and may not be used
What “match grade” ammunition will you be using? Multiple brands of ammo may be used including but not limited to SIG. Availability will be dependent on what is fired.
Sending it in?
I am. Im 200 rounds deep and shot one group under a minute.
I was thinking about just putting a prefit barrel on it but don’t want to risk something being wrong with the barrel sleeve.
Yep, send that one back.
good luck
Besides the post listed above about Weatherby, this is the first I have heard of any fee occurring for sending a firearm back for warranty. It’s not like you are sending it in and it’s a wear and tear or abuse type of thing. Both myself and other people I know have sent in firearms for issues and they were checked, sometimes fixed, and sent back with no fee occurring. Most of the time they covered shipping as well. Some of these companies are Ruger, Savage, Browning, CZ, & Taurus. People saying this kinda makes me want to stay away from Sig & Weatherby.
I’m not happy about it but I’m certain there is something wrong so I won’t be charged. Nothing shot better that 1.15. A couple loads were close to 4”. And I know it’s not me because I shot a .26 group right before switching guns.
Now if they try to tell me it’s within spec we are gonna get sideways!
175 Terminal ascent both factory from Federal and also hand loads CFE 223 44.3 gr @ 2507. About 1.2"groups. Sig cross with Sig suppressor.
UPDATE:
I just received a notice that my Sig Cross 308 is being shipped back to me. No communication of what was wrong or what corrections were made.
Justin, do you mind sharing what load you are using in your 7mm-08? I’m working up handloading recipes on two 7-08s and am not satisfied with my results yet.
